The minimum and maximum projected annualized salary for this position is: $136,305.00 to $233,666.40. Additional compensation may be possible based on experience and skills.

 

This position is expected to routinely visit client sites in the DC/Maryland/Northern Virginia area. The Special Assets team currently works in our corporate headquarters in Bethesda, MD.

Responsibilities

The Workout Liquidation Officer III autonomously manages the loan workout process of the largest and most complex loans, to include consumer, commercial, real estate, ABL, SBA, as well as bought and sold participations and Shared National Credits.  This individual is responsible for identifying and developing sophisticated strategies to maximize recovery and minimize/eliminate potential losses by working closely with borrowers, executives, attorneys, and advisors to proactively manage and address the reasons for classification.

 

  • Manages/Monitors Past Due Loans.
  • Works with Bank Counsel(s) on negotiating and restructuring higher risk assets;  filing of judgments; collection activities.
  • Effectively analyzes the assigned loan portfolio, including loan documentation review and collateral evaluation.
  • Analyzes financial information to assess borrowers’ financial situations and develop repayment plans when appropriate.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing resolution strategies to include loan restructures, negotiations, and legal actions.   Negotiates with borrowers and their advisors to effectuate the resolution strategy.  Oversees the processing of loan modifications, extensions, and forbearance agreements of loans within the assigned portfolio. 
  • Has an understanding of multi-bank transactions.  Collaborates with administrative agents, peer banks, outside legal counsel, the client, advisors, and other parties as needed to ensure timely and accurate resolution of problem loans. 
  • Communicates and negotiates with participants to build consensus to effectuate the resolution strategy in a timely manner. 
  • Projects changes in accrual status and risk of loss in a timely and accurate manner as new information is received.
  • Presents problem loan strategies both verbally and in writing to the Criticized Asset Committee in a clear and concise manner.  Reports will contain the appropriate level of detail and will be submitted in a timely manner with recommendations for loan risk rating and accrual status. 
  • Implements a “Consult – Shadow – Manage” approach to special assets.  Consults with loan officers across the Bank on low pass relationships on a one-off basis as needed. 
  • Shadows loan relationships managed on the line as potential weaknesses begin to develop.  Advocates for direct management if/when potential weaknesses become well defined weaknesses.   
  • May supervise the day to day activities of one Special Assets staff member.  Responsible for performance; coordinating time off; training and contributes to employment decisions. Partners with other Workout Liquidation Officers to share/coordinate staff resources and vacation calendars.

  • Provides guidance and training to less-experienced Loan Workout Officers and Portfolio Managers.

  • Works with bank auditors, external loan review auditors and state and federal regulators as needed.

  • Manages/Monitors OREO properties and properties classified as "Non-Performing Assets".

  • Coordinates insurance coverages for bank owned properties and properties lacking proper insurance coverage.

  • Orders & reviews appraisals of properties within loan portfolio.

  • Coordinates payment of collection expenses and legal fees.

  • Execute the appropriate initiatives to maximize the recovery of charged-off loans. 

  • Prepares and presents quarterly reserve analysis on the assigned portfolio. 

  • Prepares and presents reports at quarterly Senior Management and Board Meetings.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business related major or equivalent experience
  • 10 years experience in commercial special assets, workout, and liquidation, preferably in real estate
  • Knowledge of legal, real estate law, and bankruptcy concepts
  • Credit Analysis skills
  • Proficiency with loan documents and other legal documents
  • Understanding of loan workout liquidation policies and procedures
  • Understands complex technical and business matters relating to commercial loans
  • Strong ability to present to senior level groups such as executives and boards
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Formal training in RMA, NAGGL, college level training in credit analysis, real estate, loan documentation or SBA
